01

Getting started

What is Bunking?

Bunking is a shared-living platform that helps adults find compatible Bunkmates and rooms, or list a space as a Host. You can explore communities, describe your household preferences and connect with other members. Bunking helps people discover each other; it does not guarantee a home, a tenancy or a successful match.

Who can use Bunking?

You must be at least 18 years old to use Bunking, create an account, contact members or publish a listing. This requirement applies to both Bunkmates and Hosts. Members must provide truthful information and follow Bunking’s platform rules, privacy requirements and community guidelines.

What is the difference between Find your people, Find your room and List your space?

Choose Find your people to meet potential Bunkmates before finding a home together. Choose Find your room if you want a room in an existing shared home. Choose List your space if you are a Host with a room or home you are authorized to offer. Pick the path that best describes your current situation.

Where is Bunking currently focused?

Bunking’s current search and neighbourhood options focus on Ottawa, including areas such as Centretown, Westboro, Kanata, Nepean, Orléans and Barrhaven. Availability depends on the listings members publish. A neighbourhood appearing in a filter does not mean there are currently rooms available there.

Is Bunking a dating app, care service or emergency housing provider?

No. Bunking is for finding shared living and compatible households. It is not a dating app, medical or personal-care service, or emergency housing provider. Senior Living and Accessible Living describe optional communities and housing preferences; they do not promise supervision, care or support services.

Accounts & eligibility

How do I create a Bunking account?

Open Sign in from the account menu or Profile area, then choose Create an account. Enter your email and a password, and follow any email-confirmation instructions shown. You must be 18 or older and follow the platform rules. A Bunking account uses email sign-in; customers do not need a ChatGPT account.

How do I sign in to an existing account?

Open the account page and select the Sign in tab on the left. Enter the email and password you used for Bunking. If you were asked to sign in while opening a protected page, successful sign-in returns you to that destination.

Can I browse Bunking without an account?

Yes. Public listings and general information can be browsed without signing in. An account is needed for protected areas such as your profile, matches and messages. Some listing details are visible only after sign-in. Public browsing does not mean that a member or property has been verified.

What should I do if I cannot sign in or receive a confirmation email?

Check that your email address is spelled correctly, look in your spam or junk folder and follow any message displayed on the sign-in page. If you still need help, contact hello@bunking.com with a description of the problem. Never send your password, confirmation code or private sign-in link to another member or in a support email.

Can I share an account or create one for someone under 18?

No. Keep control of your own account and do not share your password or let someone impersonate you. A parent, guardian or other adult cannot create an account for an under-18 person to use. Helping an eligible adult understand the app does not permit publishing their information or acting as them without their permission.

Communities & inclusion

Which Bunking communities can I explore?

Bunking currently offers Senior Living, Accessible Living and Dry Living, alongside general shared-living options. Communities help you describe the kind of household you are interested in. They are optional and do not certify a property, verify a member or replace conversations about the home.

Is Senior Living restricted to a particular age group?

All Bunking users must be 18 or older. Beyond that platform-wide minimum, Senior Living is an optional community for people interested in shared homes for older adults; it does not add a separate age cutoff. Choosing the community does not provide care, screening or a guarantee about other members’ ages.

What does Accessible Living mean?

Accessible Living helps people look for home features such as step-free entrances, ground-floor bedrooms, wider doorways and accessible bathrooms. Features are described by the Host and are not independently certified by Bunking. Confirm measurements, access routes and suitability before making a commitment. You do not need to disclose a diagnosis to describe the features you need.

What does Dry Living mean?

Dry Living describes a household with alcohol- and substance-free house rules. It is a preference about the home, not a label for a person or a treatment program. Hosts should clearly explain the household expectations. Members must not request or publish another person’s recovery history, diagnosis or other sensitive health information.

Can I choose more than one community or use general search?

Yes. You can choose multiple communities or explore general shared-living options. Joining a community does not remove you from general search. Community labels should help members discuss household fit, rather than exclude people based on personal characteristics.

Profiles & questionnaires

What should I include in my Bunkmate profile?

Include an accurate display name, a suitable profile photo, a short introduction, your preferred neighbourhoods, monthly budget and move-in timing. Describe how you like to share a home, including routines and household expectations. Do not put your exact address, private contact details or sensitive personal information in public profile text.

What does the compatibility questionnaire ask about?

Bunking’s questionnaire asks about everyday shared-living preferences such as sleep, cleanliness, guests, noise, smoking, pets and how you handle disagreements. Complete each question and indicate how important the answer is to you. Answer honestly rather than trying to produce the highest possible match score.

Why do I need to complete my profile and questionnaire before messaging?

Bunking requires an account, a profile and a completed compatibility questionnaire before members connect and message. Both people need to meet these requirements. This gives conversations useful household context, but completing a profile is not an identity check, background check or endorsement.

Can I update my profile or pause my listing?

Use your account area to manage your profile and listing. Keep your budget, move-in timing, photos and household information accurate as your situation changes. Pause your listing when you are no longer looking or your space is no longer available, so other members are not contacting you about an outdated opportunity.

Are languages or sensitive personal characteristics used to score matches?

Languages can be displayed on a signed-in profile to help people communicate, but they are not compatibility scoring factors. Bunking’s matching focuses on household preferences and practical fit. Do not request diagnoses, recovery history or other sensitive information, and do not use profiles to impose discriminatory screening criteria.

Finding a room & matching

How do I search for a room or Bunkmates?

Start with the path that fits your goal and browse the available listings. Use the available filters to narrow practical details such as neighbourhood, budget, community and move-in timing. Read the complete listing and ask questions about anything that matters to you before arranging a viewing or agreeing to live together.

How does Bunking calculate compatibility?

Compatibility compares completed questionnaire answers and the importance each person gives them. Practical information such as location, budget, timing and house rules also helps determine relevant matches. A score is a conversation starter based on member-supplied information; it is not a prediction of safety or a guarantee that you will live well together.

What is a dealbreaker?

A dealbreaker is a questionnaire preference you mark as essential. A conflicting answer can exclude someone from your best-match results. Use dealbreakers thoughtfully for household compatibility, and discuss important expectations directly. A dealbreaker does not permit discriminatory screening or override Bunking’s rules.

Why might I see few matches or no results?

There may be few published listings matching your location, budget, timing or selected filters. Incomplete questionnaires and conflicting dealbreakers can also limit matching. Check that your profile is complete and review filters you are genuinely flexible about. Bunking cannot guarantee a minimum number of suitable matches.

Does a high compatibility score mean a person is safe or verified?

No. A compatibility score reflects questionnaire answers, not identity, background, financial reliability or personal safety. Identity and background checks are not currently available through Bunking. Take time to speak, ask practical questions, view the home and make your own informed decision.

Listing your space

Who can list a room or home on Bunking?

A Host must be 18 or older and have the authority to offer the room or home. Before publishing, confirm any permissions you need under your lease, ownership arrangements or building rules, and check applicable local requirements. Do not list a property you do not control or claim to represent someone without permission.

What should a Host include in a listing?

Include accurate pricing, availability, neighbourhood, room and home details, furnishings, bathrooms, household description and house rules. The current listing form also asks for an exact address in its private field and at least four home photos. Clearly describe what is included and any shared spaces. Do not place the exact street address in public text.

Can I list more than one room in the same home?

The Host form supports describing multiple available rooms in a home. Provide the requested size, furnishing and bathroom details for each room so members can understand the differences. Clearly identify which room and price you are discussing, and keep the number of available rooms current.

What photos and descriptions are acceptable?

Use photos you own or have permission to publish, and show the actual space accurately. Do not use misleading images, impersonate another person, copy another listing or publish people’s private information without permission. Avoid images that reveal documents, passwords, exact address details or other sensitive information.

How should I explain rent, bills, deposits and house rules?

State the rent period, what the quoted amount covers and which expenses are separate. Explain utilities, internet, parking, furnishings and any proposed deposit before anyone commits. Discuss guests, cleaning, smoking and shared responsibilities clearly. Confirm that proposed charges and conditions are lawful for the arrangement; a Bunking listing does not make them enforceable.

Messages & viewings

How do I contact another Bunkmate or Host?

Sign in, complete your profile and questionnaire, then use the connection option on an eligible profile or listing. Keep early conversations in Bunking messages so you have a record. Introduce yourself, explain what you are looking for and ask relevant questions without pressuring the other person to share private information.

Can I talk with several potential Bunkmates together?

The Find your people path supports group conversations with existing connections. Begin by connecting with the people you would like to include. Use group discussions to compare budgets, neighbourhoods and household expectations, and get permission before sharing anyone’s personal information with the group.

How do I arrange a viewing?

Discuss the home in a one-to-one conversation and use the viewing option to propose a future date and time for an available listing. Make sure both parties confirm the arrangement. Check the details before travelling and let the other person know promptly if your plans change.

When is a home’s exact address shared?

Bunking keeps the Host’s exact address separate from the public listing and releases it through a confirmed viewing. General neighbourhood information is available for browsing. Hosts should not put a street address in public text or photos, and members should not pressure someone to bypass the viewing process.

Does Bunking offer video calls or virtual tours?

Built-in video calls and virtual tours are not currently available. You can use messages to ask questions and arrange an in-person viewing. Do not assume a photo, conversation or viewing request verifies a member or the property. Features described as coming soon should not be treated as active services.

Safety & community guidelines

What community guidelines must every member follow?

Be honest, respectful and considerate. Use Bunking only for legitimate shared-living purposes. Harassment, threats, hate speech, scams, impersonation, discriminatory listings and sharing private information without permission are not allowed. Follow the platform rules and applicable laws, respect other people’s boundaries and report concerning behaviour.

What are Bunking’s fair-housing expectations?

Bunking’s platform rules prohibit screening members by characteristics such as gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, family status, sexual orientation or language, or adding age restrictions beyond the platform’s 18+ eligibility rule. Describe the home and household routines instead. Housing law can vary by location and living arrangement; platform rules and applicable legal obligations must both be respected.

Are members background-checked or identity-verified?

Identity verification and background checks are coming soon and are not currently provided through Bunking. An account, email confirmation, completed questionnaire or published listing is not proof of screening. Bunking does not currently certify members or properties. Assess each situation carefully and never rely on an unsupported claim of verification.

How can I reduce the risk of scams and unsafe meetings?

Be cautious about pressure to pay quickly, unusually low prices, inconsistent details or requests for passwords, codes, gift cards or cryptocurrency. Confirm the property and the person’s authority to offer it before sending money. For a first meeting or viewing, tell someone you trust where you are going and consider bringing them. Leave if you feel unsafe; contact emergency services for immediate danger.

How do I report a concern or block someone?

Use the report or block controls available on a member’s profile or conversation when signed in. Describe the concern clearly and keep relevant records. Blocking prevents further interaction with that member through the app’s connection and messaging features. You can also contact hello@bunking.com. Reports are not an emergency service; contact local emergency services if someone is in immediate danger.

Agreements, payments & moving in

What is Bunking’s minimum stay?

The current platform is designed for shared-living arrangements of at least 12 weeks. Confirm the proposed start date, length of stay and notice arrangements directly with the other party. This platform minimum does not determine your legal tenancy rights or replace an agreement that complies with applicable law.

Does Bunking collect rent, deposits or other payments?

No. Bunking does not currently collect rent or deposits, process payments, hold funds in escrow or guarantee payouts. Any financial arrangement is made directly between the parties. Check what you are agreeing to and verify the home and the other party’s authority before paying.

Are weekly payments, transfers or payment protection available?

Weekly payments and transfers through Bunking are planned features, not active services. A listing may show a weekly price, but that does not mean Bunking processes weekly payments. Do not assume Bunking provides payment protection, refunds, insurance or a financial guarantee for an arrangement you make directly.

Should we sign a written agreement before moving in?

Agree on the essential terms in writing before making a commitment: the room, occupants, start date, rent, included costs, shared responsibilities and how changes or disputes will be handled. Bunking does not currently provide a rental agreement. The rules that apply can depend on your location and living arrangement; obtain local guidance when needed.

What happens if a living arrangement changes or a dispute arises?

Discuss the issue promptly, keep records and refer to your agreement and applicable local rules. Do not assume that leaving a home, pausing a listing or blocking a member ends financial or legal obligations. Bunking can receive reports about platform conduct but does not guarantee dispute resolution, rehousing or repayment.

Privacy, support & availability

Which profile and listing details are public?

Public listings can include a display name or title, a first photo, neighbourhood, budget or price and selected household details. Additional information such as full galleries, questionnaire answers and languages requires sign-in. Treat public information as potentially visible to search engines, and never include sensitive details simply because a field is available.

What personal information should I keep off Bunking?

Do not publish identity documents, banking information, passwords, exact addresses, medical information or recovery history in profiles, listing text or photos. Avoid sharing private contact details in public fields. Only provide information needed for the purpose at hand, and do not publish someone else’s personal information without permission.

How do I ask for help or request deletion of my information?

Email hello@bunking.com for account help, privacy questions, requests to delete information or concerns about a listing. Explain what you need and identify the relevant account or page without sending a password or unnecessary sensitive documents. See the Privacy Policy for how Bunking describes its handling of personal information.

Is Bunking available in languages other than English?

The current interface is available in English. Additional interface languages are coming soon. Members can list languages they speak as profile information, but this does not translate messages automatically and is not used to calculate compatibility.

Where can I find Bunking’s rules and current feature information?

Read the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy linked in the footer, along with this FAQ. Features marked coming soon are not currently available. If a listing or message claims Bunking provides a service that is not described here, contact hello@bunking.com before relying on that claim. Every member is responsible for following the platform rules.
